Erik Nielsen – Wingnut Music
www.wingnutmusic.com

Erik Nielsen emigrated from the USA to the UK to design and launch Marillion’s first official website and online store in late 1997. After shaking off record company shackles in 2000 with the now much-copied and popular pre-order concept, Marillion’s website has grown from a simple information source into its own cottage industry, which includes private recording studios and offices, the online store Racket Records, and indie label Intact Records – the Direct-to-Consumer and 360-Degree business models ten years before they were buzzwords.

Branching out from Marillion in 2008, his Wingnut Music consultancy is working with several different artists and organisations on digital strategies, ‘holistic’ artist management, and keeping a step ahead of the
changing music industry. Based in Oxford, he is currently focused on London-based management group Twenty First Artists and manages A Genuine Freakshow in addition to his continued involvement with Marillion.

Jeff Wooding - Woodtone Music
www.woodtonemusic.com

Drawing on twenty years of experience across the spectrum of capacities in the music business, Jeff Wooding has started a hybrid music company Woodtone Music – which is an artist management, marketing consulting and record company.  Jeff started out tour managing in the DIY “jam band” world of the early ‘90’s out of his hometown of Seattle.  In 1993 he helped to open the much-acclaimed Aladdin Theatre in Portland, Oregon, which from day one offered adult music fans a smoke-free, seated venue, with early showtimes and world-class artists.

Jeff toured the world in 1995, working with R.E.M. on their Monster World Tour, and happened to meet his wife on that tour.  Following the tour, Jeff hooked up with three legends of the alternative music world – manager Andy Gershon (Smashing Pumpkins, Bryan Ferry, Cocteau Twins, Sundays) producer Scott Litt (R.E.M., Replacements, Nirvana) and A&R veteran Mark Williams (Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker, Wallflowers, Smashing Pumpkins) to act as label manager of the fledgling alternative label Outpost Recordings, an imprint of Geffen Records.  Outpost would have a very dramatic five-year run, launching the careers of Hayden, Veruca Salt, The Crystal Method, Whiskeytown, DJ Spooky, Days Of The New, Leona Naess and American HiFi.  Outpost was closed shortly after the Polygram / Universal merger.

When Andy Gershon moved to NY to take over Richard Branson’s V2 Records, Jeff joined his friend and colleague as the head of Marketing and New Media.  The run at V2 was exhilarating – The White Stripes, Mercury Rev, Elbow, Grandaddy, Josh Ritter, Brendan Benson, Rickie Lee Jones, Paul Weller, Toots and the Maytals, Ray Davies, The Raconteurs, Moby and The Stereophonics.  V2 was closed shortly after Branson sold the label to investors.

In a short stint in A&R at Epic Records, Jeff made records with Ben Folds and Los Lonely Boys, but was soon convinced that working for himself in a capacity directly with developing artists was what this twenty year apprenticeship across the industry was pointing towards.
