Important Information: Acadian Celebration Stage – New Location!

November 6, 2009 Halifax, NS – The Acadian Celebration Stage has been moved from the Théâtre du Centre scolaire communautaire de l'École secondaire de Par-en-Bas in Tusket to the Belleville Elementary School, 84 Rue Belleville (Road) in Tusket on Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8.

Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week Begins!

November 5, 2009 Halifax, NS – Music Nova Scotia welcomes everyone to Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week!

Today through until Sunday, November 8, Yarmouth and surrounding communities will be flooded with artists, industry professionals and music fans from all over the province. More than sixty showcases will take place over the weekend at the Red Knight, Rudder’s Seafood Restaurant and Brew Pub, Haley’s Lounge, Th’YARC and The Rodd Grand Yarmouth ballroom. The Rodd Grand Yarmouth will be a hub of activity with receptions, the educational conference and late night stage performances and thirty-five awards will be given out at the Music Nova Scotia Music and Industry Awards brunch on Sunday, November 8 at 11:30am.

The biggest event of the week, the Gala Awards Show held Sunday, November 8 at 8:00pm, is hosted by Bruce Guthro and Jimmy Flynn. The evening will feature performances by Joel Plaskett, Classified, Brian Borcherdt, Grand Dérangement, In-Flight Safety, The Tom Fun Orchestra, Dave Carroll, Charlie A'Court, winners of the underage Yarmouth Exhibition Battle of the Bands The Hold Up and Celtic fiddlers Dawn and Margie Beaton, Anna Ludlow, Colin Grant, Chrissy Crowley and Gillian Boucher.

Tickets to the Music and Industry Awards brunch and the Gala Awards Show, the Songs and Stories Concert, delegate passes and festival wristbands are on sale now through www.ticketpro.ca, by calling 1-888-311-9090 or at any Ticketpro outlet, including the Yarmouth Mariners Centre box office, City Drug Store and Saulnierville Pharmacy. One Week To Go!

We’re a week away from music week and we’ve still got some cool announcements to make.

1. On Thursday, November 5 we will be hosting an open stage at Haley’s Lounge at the Rodd Grand Yarmouth from 10:00pm – 1:00am. This is another opportunity for you to be seen in front of international delegates and music buyers. Any bands interested in performing on the stage please email Dwayne Ellis at dwayne@musicnovascotia.ca.

2. We have activated the Aboriginal Artist/Group Recording of the Year award.

The award will be handed out at the Music and Industry Awards brunch on Sunday, November 6.

3. Vote for the Bell Aliant Entertainer of the Year here http://public.bellaliant.net/MNSEntertainer2009. The nominees, as released on September 4, 2009, are Joel Plaskett, Classified, In-Flight Safety, Christina Martin and Charlie A’Court. Voting closes on Friday, October 30 and this is open to the public!

Important Information for Members

We are two weeks to music week today and we’ve got some important information for you to keep on-hand.

1. The Music Nova Scotia office will be closed from Wednesday, November 4 at 9:00am to Friday, November 13 at 6:00pm and open on Monday, November 16 at 9:00am. There will be no Music Nova Scotia Daily Newsletter during this time.

2. Media accreditation deadline is this FRIDAY at 5:00pm. Please email krista@musicnovascotia.ca to request an application. A media pass gives access to the showcases and the educational conference, the opening and closing receptions, the late night stages and you have the option to attend the Songs and Stories Concert on Saturday and the Music Nova Scotia Industry Awards Brunch and Gala Awards Show on Sunday.

Three Weeks Away

A few reminders today about upcoming deadlines for music week. We’ll keep it short and sweet!

1. A reminder about the USB sticks. The deadline to submit a file for the USB sticks is has been extended to Friday, October 16 at 5:00pm. Do it! Questions? Call Lindsay-Bea at 423-6271 ext. 5 or email lindsaybea@musicnovascotia.ca. Read the original notice with all the information HERE.

2. Have you purchased your tickets for the Music Nova Scotia Music and Industry Awards brunch? The Gala Awards Show? A delegate’s pass? Now is the time! Here is the information you need to know:

A discounted delegate pass is available for artists / bands that did apply but did not receive a showcase. The price is $50.00 including tax, plus a $3 service fee. You can only purchase these discounted passes from the Music Nova Scotia office. To purchase with a Visa or Mastercard call Lisa at 423-6271 ext. 7 or drop by the office to pay with a credit card, debit, cash or cheque.
 
If you are nominated for: Male Artist Recording, Female Artist Recording, Album of the Year, SOCAN Songwriter of the Year, Video of the Year, New Artist/Group Recording, Group Recording and the Bell Aliant Entertainer of the Year, you do not have to purchase a ticket for the Music Nova Scotia Gala Awards Show. One complimentary ticket will be provided to you at registration. For more information call Lisa at 423-6271 ext. 7 or email lisa@musicnovascotia.ca.

If you are nominated for any of the other awards, your first ticket to the Music Nova Scotia Music and Industry Brunch is $9.99 and must be purchased from the Music Nova Scotia office. If you are nominated and / or showcasing, you do not need to purchase a delegate’s pass. You (and your band members) will be provided a delegate’s pass when you arrive and complete your registration at music week.

We’re less than a month to go before music week and things are picking up speed at a rapid pace, it’s a flurry of activity, time is flying by and we’ve got more exciting news to announce with this week’s update.

Acadian Celebration at Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week

BLOU to perform the Acadian Celebration Stage

October 8, 2009 Halifax, NS – Music Nova Scotia in association with the Conseil acadien de Par-en-Bas and Canadian Heritage is pleased to announce the Acadian Celebration Stage as the newest addition to the Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week festivities. Live performances will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 6, 7 and 8 at the "New Theatre", École Secondaire de Par-en-Bas, 360 Route 308 Nord, Tusket and Église Saint Michel, Route 334, Wedgeport. These performances will be the unveiling of the new theatre and the first of many community based performances in the future.

On Saturday, November 7 internationally acclaimed artist and Nova Scotia native BLOU will perform on the Acadian Celebration Stage. From Marc Escarbot Theatre in Church Point, Nova Scotia to the International Festival of Shanghai, BLOU does not cease sowing its unique style of music. BLOU was born in Nova Scotia in 1994, the Acadian people fell in love with the sound right away, and the origin of the name BLOU comes from an aboriginal man who lived at the end of the street where Patrice Boulianne resides, "L'ALLÉE DES BLOU". BLOU has performed over 2700 shows in 26 countries, been seen by more than 2 million people around the world, received 13 international and national awards and a Gold certification for his CD "Tringgle".

September 4, 2009 Halifax, Nova Scotia – Bruce Guthro and Jimmy Flynn will host the Music Nova Scotia Gala Awards Show in Yarmouth during Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week, November 5-8. A wide range of talented Nova Scotia artists will perform on the show including Brian Borcherdt, Joel Plaskett, Classified, Grand Dérangement, In-Flight Safety, The Tom Fun Orchestra, Charlie A'Court, winners of the underage Yarmouth Exhibition Battle of the Bands The Holdup and Cape Breton fiddlers Dawn and Margie Beaton, Anna Ludlow, Colin Grant, Chrissy Crowley and Gillian Boucher, making the 2009 production the largest in thirteen years of music week festivities.

Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week is thrilled to announce the Music Nova Scotia Music Award nominees. At the front of the pack, Joel Plaskett and In-Flight Safety are up for six award nominations each. Both are nominated for the Bell Aliant Entertainer of the Year and SOCAN Songwriter of the Year. Plaskett’s triple release Three is nominated for Album of the Year, Male Artist Recording and Pop/Rock Artist/Group Recording. Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week Gets Warped

Music Nova Scotia, with support from the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, is excited to announce the International Buyers Program as part of Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week in Yarmouth, November 5 – 8, 2009. The program will bring in music buyers representing festivals, agencies and prominent clubs from the UK, Germany and the United States.

Kevin Lyman, creator of the Warped Tour, Taste of Chaos Tour, Mayhem Tour, Down from the Mountain Tour and partner at Sideonedummy Records will be at Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week to select one lucky band to perform on 4 dates of the Vans Warped Tour 2010. Lyman is also creating a Country tour based around the Warped model and has opened a full time office in Nashville to help facilitate and plan, the yet to be named tour, in 2010.
