Music Nova Scotia’s Battle of the Bands: HMV Next Big Thing Line-up Announced

The Seahorse Tavern: September 7, 14, 21, and 28, The Pit (CBU): September 23

Music Nova Scotia, The Seahorse Tavern, Cape Breton University Student Union, and London, England’s MAMA Group have partnered together to present Battle of the Bands: HMV Next Big Thing. Preliminary rounds will take place at the Seahorse Tavern during Music Nova Scotia's New Music Tuesdays on September 7, 14, 21, and 28. Bands in Cape Breton will compete at Cape Breton University’s The Pit on September 23.

One winner from each preliminary round will advance to the final battle taking place on Friday, November 5, 2010 during Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week in Yarmouth. The winner of the final battle will receive a showcasing spot on one of the five HMV Next Big Thing stages in London UK in February, 2011.

HMV Next Big Thing is an exciting new music festival being staged and promoted by HMV and live music partner MAMA Festivals across five London venues in February 2011. The London-based event showcases over 60 artists representing the best new talent from the UK, Ireland and around the world through an annual, multi-venue festival. HMV Next Big Thing supports a variety of music genres, including Indie Rock, Folk, Jazz, Pop, Electronica, Hip Hop and Grime.

Jim Benner, Head of Special Events for MAMA Group, will be travelling to Yarmouth from the UK to attend Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week as part of Music Nova Scotia’s International Buyers Program and will select the winning band. This unique showcasing opportunity is a direct result of a recent Music Nova Scotia trade mission to the UK which included a Music Nova Scotia Stage at The Great Escape Festival, Europe’s leading festival for new music.
