2. Ballet Jörgen Canada Halifax

Save the Date!
Cinderella lights up the Halifax stage Wednesday, April 14th
This ballet by Bengt Jörgen is a sparkling rendition of the fairy tale favourite. Jörgen's choreography takes us through the adventures of Cinderella and her stepsisters. Cinderella is tormented by her sisters until her life is changed by the appearance of an old woman, a seed and magical fairies.
When Cinderella wins the hand of her prince, her stepsisters find their world turned upside down. Framing the action are sets by Glenn Davidson that create a fantastical environment based on the idea of the natural world reclaiming man-made structures. Costume designs by Robert Doyle playfully echo each character's personality.

5. Daily Digital News from Music Ally: Technology bosses attack Digital Economy Bill
An amendment to the UK’s Digital Economy Bill that could force ISPs to block access to copyright-infringing websites has been slammed by the heads of the four largest UK ISPs, along with Google, Facebook, eBay and Yahoo.
The joint letter to the Financial Times claims that “the amendment seeks to address the legitimate concerns of rights-holders but would have unintended consequences that far outweigh any benefits it could bring”. The letter doesn’t pull its punches:
“Blocking access as envisaged by this clause would both widely disrupt the internet in the UK and elsewhere and threaten freedom of speech and the open internet, without reducing copyright infringement as intended. To rush through such a controversial proposal at the tail end of a parliament, without any kind of consultation with consumers or industry, is very poor lawmaking.”

6. Laura Merrimen at Canadian Music Week

Hot on the heels of a national publicity campaign, and several very successful solo and band showcases at the ECMAs last weekend, Laura Merrimen will be performing a solo showcase during Canadian Music Week. Her showcase is 6:30PM this Saturday as part of the Enter the Tiki stage at the Rivoli. Laura has a lot of great gigs lined up for March and April, including a Little River Folk songwriter's circle (with Ryan MacGrath, Steve Gates, and Carmen Townsend) in Petite Riviere on March 13th, and the Folk Fiesta! at the Pearl Theatre in Lunenburg on March 27th. 8. Evolve Festival Named Canada's #1 Music Festival by CBC Radio 3 Searchlight
The Evolve Music and Awareness Festival, held in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, serves as the summer's marquee event in the Maritimes. Evolve is thrilled to announce that it has been voted "CBC Radio 3 Searchlight's Best Festival in Canada". CBC Radio 3 will travel to Evolve on July 23, 24 and 25th; for a special live on-site broadcast and to present the winning trophy and plaque declaring Evolve the #1 Music Festival in Canada. This is Evolve's second "best festival" prize this year, having already been named to top the "15 Best Outdoor Music Festivals in North America" in 2009 by Santa Fe-based Outside Magazine.
The Evolve Festival is held annually in the heart of the Nova Scotia highlands in Antigonish County. This majestic 225-acre site, with its breathtaking view of the Atlantic coastline, has attracted an average of over 2,000 festival goers each year. Since its inception in 1999, Evolve has grown into a visionary festival. Evolve now features 5 music stages and an ever-growing range of artisans and practitioners who offer festival-goers an enlightening and completely sustainable experience. One of the greenest festivals in Canada, Evolve continues to dedicate itself to: a strong focus on alternative energy sources; an extensive recycling & venue cleanup program; a program of workshops & discussions on climate change and other essential topics; and empowering people to promote sustainable living in their own communities. The website, www.evolvefestival.com, is the centrepiece of an impressive grassroots marketing campaign, with all print marketing materials printed on 100% post consumer recycled paper using soy-based inks. Notable international headliners have included Michael Franti and Spearhead, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Medeski Martin & Wood, The Be Good Tanyas, and Xavier Rudd; with an equally impressive history of promoting homegrown talent such as k-os, Wintersleep, Classified, The New Deal, King Khan, Hey Rosetta!, and Skratch Bastid.
"I'm delighted just to get noticed," says Evolve Festival Artistic & Executive Director Jonas Colter. "Evolve has always aspired to have the best possible fan experience, and we are humbled to be in the good company of festivals like Hillside, Ottawa Blues Fest, Shambhala, Shelter Valley, Stan Rogers Folk Festival & Vancouver Island MusicFest which in my mind are some of the best festivals in the world. We are incredibly grateful for this honour from the CBC, our national broadcaster that does so much to nurture Canadian culture and talent."
In a live broadcast on Wednesday, March 4th, Colter announced the first confirmed artists for Evolve 2010, including: San Francisco's one-man show That 1 Guy, Vancouver traditional/electronica fusionists Delihi 2 Dublin, Juno Award-winning roots artist Old Man Luedecke, and rising star Rich Aucoin. Mark down July 23-24-25 on your calendars and make the journey to Antigonish -- you'll remember it for a lifetime! Evolve Festival will release the full line-up live on CBC 3 in April. Earlybird tickets are now available at Ticketpro.ca and all Ticketpro locations across Canada.
