September 7, 2010 Halifax, Nova Scotia – Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week is a showcase of Nova Scotian music and celebrates the achievements of our artists and industry professionals. Each year in November, music fans, musicians, and industry professionals gather during music week for four jam packed days of performances, educational programming, and award ceremonies. Music Nova Scotia is pleased to announce our Music and Industry Award nominees for 2010.

Music Nova Scotia announced the full roster today, during a cross-Halifax busking campaign by top Nova Scotia Music Week artists.

- Music Industry Unites to Fight Online Piracy
John-Paul Ellson, Chair of the Canadian Council of Music Industry Associations (CCMIA), announced, today, the CCMIA’s joining Balanced Copyright for Canada coalition, a national organization that advocates taking Bill C-32 as a starting point for bringing Canada’s copyright into the digital age. Bernie Finkelstein of Balanced Copyright for Canada’s Advisory Board welcomed CCMIA’s support. The Advisory Board of 14 members includes Roger Mooking, Steven Ellis and Andy Stochansky, among others.

- CCMIA Restructures to meet Current Challenges in the Canadian Music Industry
The Canadian Council of Music Industry Associations (CCMIA), composed of 10 provincial and territorial music industry associations, announced today, a corporate restructuring designed to more effectively address current issues faced by the Canadian music industry. The restructuring includes the induction of a new executive team.

Music Nova Scotia is thrilled to announce that Wintersleep will headline an all-ages show with a 19+ licensed area on Saturday, November 6 at the Rodd Grand Yarmouth Convention Centre in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia for Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week 2010.

Councillor Dawn Sloane, the Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC) and the Halifax Regional Municipality Cultural Affairs, in association with Music Nova Scotia and Centre for Arts and Technology, are presenting the 3rd annual, free, summer concert series Tunes at Noon, featuring Nova Scotian performers from a range of musical genres.

Music Nova Scotia is now accepting music and industry award nominations for Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week 2010 until Friday, July 23 at 5:00 p.m. – no extensions will be given! Please link here to read the NSMW 2010 Awards Manual with all forms required. Make sure you read the information contained in these documents carefully to ensure that your submissions fulfill the criteria for the categories you are applying for.
- Board of Directors Election Results announced
When the Music Nova Scotia Nominations and Election Committee put out the call this year for all interested members to submit nominations for the Board of Directors, 25 candidates registered. By far, that is the biggest roster of candidates Music Nova Scotia has seen and the depth and breadth of those candidates reflected the varied interests of the membership overall.

- Music Nova Scotia Export Mission to the UK and Ireland
This May, Joel Plaskett, Rich Aucoin and Ghost Bees will join Music Nova Scotia in an export mission to the UK. In partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, Music Nova Scotia will present two major showcases – one at The Great Escape Music Festival in Brighton and one at Pure Grooves in London. The Music Nova Scotia team will then carry on to Ireland to hold further strategic meetings, searching for exporting opportunities for Music Nova Scotia members.

Tunes at Noon will take place every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. in Grand Parade in Halifax. The series will run from mid July to the end of August. Full schedule and list of performers will be announced at a later date.

For the second year in a row, Yarmouth will host Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week.
