Music Nova Scotia Announces Stimulus Funding to Support New and Existing Investment Programs

(April 23, 2024 – Halifax, NS) Music Nova Scotia is pleased to share that thanks to additional support from the Province of Nova Scotia and the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage, Music Nova Scotia can support new programs and expand support for existing Investment Programs

“The Province of Nova Scotia is investing in the expansion of Music Nova Scotia initiatives that will impact all aspects of the industry, from artist development to aligning with the province’s growing film economy,” says Minister Allan MacMaster. “We look forward to continuing to work with Music Nova Scotia to support our province’s talented artists.”

“We’re grateful to the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage for their continued support and investment in Nova Scotian artists,” says Meghan Scott, President of the Board of Music Nova Scotia (MNS). “The expansion of existing programs and capacity to partner across the creative sector with the film industry is integral in ensuring artists explore alternative revenue streams.” The over $500K exclusively for programming (listed in detail below), comes on the heels of MNS acting as the host organization for the 2024 JUNO Awards that were held in Halifax from March 20 - 24. “This commitment from the Province will be integral to provide amplified support as we move forward with an eye on legacy for artists capitalizing on opportunities following the JUNO Awards,” says MNS Executive Director, Allegra Swanson.

New programs include:

Export Accelerator Program: $80,000 per year for two years

The Export Accelerator Program will fund export missions for artists who have been selected through an application process. Artists will work closely with MNS staff to identify target markets and develop strategic goals for one year of export missions. This program will reduce barriers faced when applying to showcase outside of Canada as MNS will book and cover the cost of travel and accommodation.

Applications open June 1, 2024. Program begins August 1, 2024.

Sync Nova Scotia: $10,000 per year for two years

The Sync Nova Scotia Program will encourage films and TV productions shot in Nova Scotia to license the music of Nova Scotian artists for their productions by providing a 25% subsidy toward the licensing fees paid by production companies for songs by Nova Scotian artists.

Rolling Deadline - program begins May 1, 2024
