Songs and Stories and Showcasing Artists Announced

Songs and Stories and Showcasing Artists Announced
Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week
Yarmouth November 5-8

September 1, 2009 Halifax, Nova Scotia – Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week is pleased to announce the Songs and Stories concert will showcase the talents of host Matt Minglewood and feature Erin Costelo, Ryan Cook, Steven Bowers, Jenn Grant, Julian Babin and Jeanne (Doucet) Currie. Songs and Stories showcases the unique emotional connection between song and story and reflects the reality and diversity of our culture, past and present, as seen through the eyes of a songwriter.

After a dozen recordings and thirty years of touring from Cape Breton to Vancouver, Europe and across the United States, Matt Minglewood has earned the respect and loyalty of thousands of devoted fans. As a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Minglewood creates an inspired blend of country, blues, folk, roots and rock and has been honored with many accolades including three gold records, two Juno nominations, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the East Coast Music Association (ECMA) and the Queens Jubilee Medal for his contribution to Canadian music. www.mattminglewood.com

Erin Costelo’s debut full-length album Fire & Fuss has proven to be a hit among fans and fellow artists. Costelo has shared the stage with a long list of admired Canadian singer-songwriters including David Myles, Rose Cousins, Amelia Curran, Al Tuck, Catherine MacLellan and Tom Swift. www.erincostelo.com

Ryan Cook is a rather unusual suspect in the world of honky-tonk singer-songwriters. Raised in a large dairy farming family in Yarmouth, he began screaming in punk rock and heavy metal garage bands as a teenager and has gone on to receive an ECMA nomination and international recognition in country music for his debut full-length album Hot Times. www.ryancook.ca

Steven Bowers is making a unique mark with his words and endearing folk performances at home in Nova Scotia and across the country. A trailblazing traveler and festival favorite, his career is taking off after the launch of his new EP Circadian Anthem, a follow-up to his critically acclaimed album Homing, and a cross-Canada tour. www.stevenbowers.com

Jenn Grant's name has surfaced in four star reviews from Harp and The Globe and Mail, earned her several ECMA nominations, and landed her on tours with the Great Lake Swimmers, Hayden, Justin Rutledge, Martin Tielli, Danny Michel, and The Weakerthans. www.jenngrant.com

Julian Babin was born and raised in a small fishing community in Southwest Nova Scotia, fell in love with the guitar at the age of 12 and started to create his own material at the age of 22. He’s been creating ever since. www.myspace.com/julianbabin

Jeanne (Doucet) Currie is a writer, singer-songwriter, poet and storyteller. An Acadian from the region of Clare in Nova Scotia, Currie presents a lively and moving selection of songs with an Acadian flavour. She will make you laugh, sing and laisser les bons temps rouler! www.jeannedoucetcurrie.ca
