Brogue Saxophone Quartet launches on its Seascapes Tour 2016

Dartmouth, Nova Scotia—August 16, 2016

Just before the fog and icebergs return to the waters of Maritime Canada, the unpredictable and always entertaining Brogue Saxophone Quartet brings a new program of great music to the region for six concerts in September. With dates in Sackville NB, Truro, Parrsboro, Lunenburg, New Glasgow, and Halifax, there are chances for everyone to enjoy the lively and highly varied Seascapes Tour program.

Just as the Scottish brogue mixes sounds and influences from different regions, so The Brogue Quartet fuses the styles and backgrounds of its four members to create an ensemble that is lively, engaging, cohesive, and dynamic! Their performances are always highly polished and very entertaining. Going well beyond the boundaries of the traditional saxophone quartet, the players bring to the group their skills on other instruments and in diverse musical styles. On this program you will hear saxophones, flutes, clarinets, bassoon, and more. You never know what you might hear!

The program includes Seascapes, a very funky work about fog and icebergs by British composer Gavin Whitlock. The feature work is Two Words, a jazzy new piece commissioned by and composed for The Brogue by American Mike Titlebaum. Be one of the first to hear it! Also on the program are a visit to the origins of the saxophone quartet in Jeanjean’s Quatuor, and modern classics July by Michael Torke and Three Blues by Charles Ruggiero.
