FACTOR, the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings, is hiring a Senior Project 
Coordinator – Collective Initiatives for its downtown Toronto office.  This is a full-time, salaried 
position.
 
Summary
 
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the SPC is responsible for the professional and efficient 
administration of funding requests in the Collective Initiatives and Sponsorships Programs. Clients 
in these programs are major Canadian event producers, music conferences, industry organizations, 
festivals and music exporters, and digital developers.  
 
Responsibilities include administering files from receipt of application to approval or rejection by the 
Board of Directors, through to completion; creating a positive client experience by understanding 
and meeting their unique needs quickly, professionally and accurately; collecting and analyzing 
success metrics and deliverables; researching and writing reports to the executive and Board; 
assisting with application processing on an overflow basis for other programs as needed.
 
Qualifications
 
The successful candidate will have a post-secondary education and a professional background in 
non-profit arts administration and/or public funding administration, and production and delivery of 
cultural programming.  Must have knowledge of the business side of the Canadian music industry 
and experience in funding applications for large productions either as a client or as an administrator.   
Must have demonstrable ability to interpret cultural policy.  Experience in large-scale arts event 
production is an asset.  Bilingualism is also an asset.
 
Additional assets could include: project management, research and writing in cultural policy, data 
collection and analysis, event promotion.

Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Coordinator Media Production, Learning Resources & Technology Services (LRTS) division, the Planning Technician 3 (Technical Producer/Director Media Production) is responsible for maintaining and operating the audio and video production facilities; selecting and directing production crews; and assisting in establishing and working within a studio equipment budget.

Responsibilities include:
Providing technical direction for all audio and video productions; performing technical production tasks, including camera operation, sound recording, lighting, digital editing of sound and visuals, as well as the creation of computer graphics and animation. You will be responsible, in both studio and field locations, for the technical and aesthetic quality of all video images, graphics, special effects, transitions, computer images, and multi-track audio recordings, including voice, music and sound effects that contribute to LRTS audio and video productions.

Managing and scheduling spaces and equipment in the audio and video production facilities, including its control room; compiling and administering the equipment and supply budget of the LRTS Media Production facility, including purchases, rentals, maintenance services, and casual crew remuneration; and the technical supervision of production crews in house and on location.
Evaluating the technical aspects of the production and post-production process, including all elements of editing and mixing, to ensure that LRTS audio and video products meet current broadcast standards and the various current requirements of online distribution through the LRTS Digital Video Library and elsewhere.

The Technical Producer/Director frequently must interpret the visual and audio needs of clients during participation in program planning meetings; select, supervise and train contract technical staff involved in LRTS audio and video productions; evaluate equipment as a basis for preparing  technical specifications for audio & video equipment used at LRTS for production, duplication or display; and provide technical research support to LRTS colleagues and other government clients for whom LRTS undertakes projects. This includes periodically advising Department of Education and Early Childhood Development staff and Regional School Board officials on specifications for equipment purchased for administrative and school use. Such activities require the Technical Producer/Director to maintain a current understanding of new types and formats of relevant equipment and software. The position is also responsible for cost/benefit analysis to determine whether existing equipment should be repaired or replaced.
The Technical Producer/Director must be able to travel within the province to work with clients to obtain audio and video as needed. Must have a strong background in audio and video production and a keen interest in new technologies.

Qualifications:
• Grade 12 plus a 2-year planning technician course (post-secondary certification in audio and video production)
• Minimum of 6 years related experience (technical production); an equivalent combination of training and production experience may be accepted
• Strong general knowledge of current production/post production processes and business practices; strong industry background in media production
• Detailed knowledge and skill in the operation of all equipment associated with broadcast-quality production and distribution (particularly, but not exclusively, ENG/EFP and studio video cameras and control units; digital video recording and editing systems; time-base correctors; special effects devices; digital audio recording/mixing systems; audio tape decks, consoles and mixers; microphones; routing/ switching equipment; wave form and vector scopes; time code equipment; computer graphic and animation equipment and software; and lighting and grip systems)
• Specific knowledge and experience with image recording using Sony XD Cam PMW 350 and PMW EX3 technology; post production using a Mac-based Final Cut Studio Suite; LightWave 3-D, Motion Graphics, and digital effects and animation, using  LightWave, Photoshop, After Effects, Motion  Graphics, and Sorensen transcoding software
• Knowledge and experience with stereo and multi-track sound engineering using particularly, but not exclusively, Sound Forge; Pro Tools; Vegas; and Waves software
• Sound judgment and proven initiative
• Creativity and innovation demonstrated through past production projects
• Ability to integrate emerging technology seamlessly into existing systems, processes, & productions
• Ability to solve technical problems independently
• Superior attention to detail and multitasking skills
• Ability to deal with a wide variety of people with tact and diplomacy

CCMA Jiffy Lube FanFest Performance Contest

(June 26, 2013 Halifax, NS) Calling all Nova Scotian country artists! Music Nova Scotia is running a contest in tandem with the Canadian Country Music Association, giving one Canadian country artist/act the opportunity to perform at the Jiffy Lube Fanfest during this year’s Country Music Week in Edmonton, Alberta. 
 
How it works:
Music Nova Scotia, along with the eight other provincial music associations will be accepting submissions to qualify for the Jiffy Lube Fanfest Performance Contest. Each association will then select one artist/act to be entered in a national Canadian Country Music Association Facebook contest where fans are able to vote on the artist they would like to see perform at the Jiffy Lube Fanfest. The national Facebook contest will open on July 29, 2013 and close on August 5, 2013. The winner will be announced on August 9, 2013.
 
What the National Contest winner receives:
