Spotlight on Nova Scotia at Milwaukee Irish Fest

(August 14, Halifax, NS)  The spotlight is on Nova Scotia at the world's largest celebration of Irish music and culture with nine Nova Scotian artists scheduled to perform at Milwaukee Irish Fest this weekend. The festival draws over 130,000 music fans and dozens of Celtic festival organizers from across the United States.  The 2013 Nova Scotia Showcase is a partnership between the Province of Nova Scotia, Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation, FACTOR and Music Nova Scotia. The partnership serves to promote the export of Nova Scotian music and showcase the province as a music tourism destination.

Artists taking part in the Nova Scotia Showcase this weekend were selected by Milwaukee Irish Fest talent bookers attending Nova Scotia Music Week last November in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. Artists selected include Buddy MacDonald, Cassie & Maggie MacDonald, Dave Gunning, Evans & Doherty, Mary Jane Lamond and Wendy MacIsaac, Old Man Luedecke, Sprag Session, The Barra MacNeils and The Modern Grass.

In addition to the Nova Scotia Showcase, representatives from Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative, Cape Breton Island: The Celtic Heart of North America and Music Nova Scotia are attending to participate in various business-to-business cultural trade and training opportunities. Music Nova Scotia university co-op Blaise Theriault has been selected to participate in the Milwaukee Irish Fest Festival Experience Program. The program provides a 10 day training platform for young adults from Ireland, Northern Ireland and Nova Scotia who are interested in working in the cultural industries with an opportunity to experience the planning and presentation of one of the largest festivals in the world.
