Nova Scotia Music Week Heads for Sydney

(May 28, 2013 Halifax, NS)  Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week is crossing the causeway for the first time and heading for Cape Breton Island. The festival will take place in Sydney, Nova Scotia from November 7th to 10th. With over 100 artists playing on multiple stages, Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week is one of the largest music festivals in the region.
Music Nova Scotia executive director Scott Long sees the upcoming edition of Nova Scotia Music Week as an important milestone for the organization. According to Long,
“Cape Breton Island is one of the most important music destinations in the world. Nova Scotia Music Week is about celebrating the music of our province and to say we are excited about hosting the event in Sydney would be an understatement. All are welcome and we look forward to our inaugural Cape Breton edition of Nova Scotia Music Week.”
To show appreciation to the local host community, organizers are offering a special ticket package that gives festival goers exclusive access to the event. “Sydney Steal” Passes are now on sale for $155.00 and hold a full retail value of over $300.00. The Sydney Steal Pass will only be available online via debit or credit card through or by calling 1-888-311-9090 for a limited time. All other festival tickets will be available online and via physical outlets across CBRM later next month.
The Sydney Steal Pass consists of:
2 Delegate Passes (access to all festival showcases, conference, opening and closing receptions, festival shuttle service and exclusive VIP late night parties)
2 Songs and Stories tickets (songwriters circle show - artists TBA)
2 The NSLC Gala Award Show tickets (artists TBA)
Artist Showcasing Submissions Now Open
Artist showcasing submissions to play Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week 2013 are now open. Artists interested in performing during the festival can click here to apply to showcase. Artist showcasing submissions will close Friday, June 14 at 5 p.m. You must be a member of Music Nova Scotia in good standing to apply to showcase. If your membership is not up to date by 5 p.m. June 14 your submission will not be considered eligible. Please click here to read the showcase manual for all eligibility requirements.

FACTOR has just released their new Program Guidelines ( , Application Deadlines ( , new online system and new rating system for their funding programs. Beyond learning how the new programs work, you must register yourself as an applicant in a brand new way before March 31st, 2013. See this Program Overview ( for a bigger picture. The new online system goes live on March 1st, 2013.

Galaxie Young Performers Program at 2013 Winnipeg Folk Festival applications now open!

Now in its 14th year, the Winnipeg Folk Festival is pleased to once again present the Galaxie Young Performers Program. Open to emerging musicians ages 14-24, this training and performance program offers a day of workshops and mentoring with professional musicians hired to perform at this year’s festival. Participants also have the opportunity to perform in front of the Festival audience. We hope those who take part will come away inspired to pursue a future in music. It’s also a chance to interact and exchange ideas with young musicians with similar musical interests.

Musicians – singer/songwriters, bands, vocalists & instrumentalists 14-24 years of age

At the internationally acclaimed Winnipeg Folk Festival July 10-14, 2013

Program dates: July 11-12, 2013.
Application deadline: April 8, 2013.

A learning and performance workshop, this two-day program starts off with a day of mentoring with 2013 Festival performers. The second day takes place at the Winnipeg Folk Festival site where participants will showcase their talents on the Young Performers Stage. Enjoy the experience of a captive audience eager to discover new talent, and for added star status, the concert is recorded live to be broadcast following the festival.
