Music Nova Scotia's 2018 Annual General Meeting and Call for Nominations

Music Nova Scotia’s Annual General Meeting will be held Tuesday, June 26th, 2018 at the Music Nova Scotia office at 2169 Gottingen Street. The meeting will go from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM. All Music Nova Scotia members in good standing are invited and encouraged to attend.  


Music Nova Scotia is holding its annual election for its board of directors. There are seven (7) incumbents re-offering and seven (7) positions in total to fill.  

Music Nova Scotia members are encouraged to nominate anyone who, in their opinion, would be a good candidate for the Music Nova Scotia board of directors. We also invite anyone interested in being nominated to declare their interest by contacting Music Nova Scotia Nominations Committee Chair James Stewart.  

Nominations open May 14, 2018 and close on May 28, 2018 at 5:00 PM.  

In each case, contact will be made with each nominee to ensure that we have the permission of the nominee to let his/her name stand.  

To be eligible for consideration, a candidate must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a Music Nova Scotia Member in good standing (you may sign up and then be nominated) –
  • Have sufficient time to devote to doing the board’s work
  • Believe in the mission, vision, and work of the Society
  • Comprehend and accept the fiduciary duties and responsibilities associated with the actions of the Society
  • Understand the job of a board member
  • Possess the skills needed by the Society

Before May 28, 2018 the candidate must deliver to the Nomination Committee:

  • A completed web form available here.
  • Three (3) letters of support from Music Nova Scotia members in good standing
  • 200 word bio for the ballot
  • Photo

All nominees must provide three letters of support from members in good standing and must be willing to participate in an interview conducted by the Nominations Committee in person or via telecommunications.  

Nominations must be submitted via the web form.

*Music Nova Scotia board of directors positions are two (2) year terms.  


The Music Nova Scotia Nominations Committee will prepare a list of nominees. The election will be conducted electronically through from June 5th through June 25th, 2018.  Details on voting procedures will be forwarded to the membership on June 5th.  


Voting Eligibility 
All members in good standing are eligible to vote with the exception of honorary members. Student members are not entitled to a vote.  


All Music Nova Scotia members are encouraged to vote online for the Board of Directors, who will act as guidance for all Music Nova Scotia activities. All members are also welcome to attend the 2018 Annual General Meeting, where the results of the election will be announced.

Nova Scotia Music Week Joins Keychange Initiative Festival Pledges to Achieve 50:50 gender balance by 2022

Nova Scotia Music Week is one of the latest festivals to join the Keychange initiative, a pioneering international initiative supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union which empowers women to transform the future of the music industry and encourages festivals to achieve or maintain a 50:50 gender balance by 2022. 

The announcement was made today in Liverpool, UK during the Liverpool Sound City international festival and conference. Nova Scotia Music Week is amoung 40 festivals from across North America and Europe included in today's announcement. 

This follows the gender balance commitment made in February 2018 by 45 international music festivals and conferences including existing Keychange partners Reeperbahn Festival (Germany), BIME (Spain), Iceland Airwaves, Way Out West (Sweden), Musikcentrum Sweden, Tallinn Music Week (Estonia), and MUTEK (Canada) and new UK Keychange festival partner Liverpool Sound City.

Nova Scotia Music Week will take place in Truro, Nova Scotia November 1-4, 2018 and includes the Music Nova Scotia Awards, a music business conference and international buyers program.

Music Nova Scotia Members Paid Performance Opportunity Onboard the Fundy Rose

Artist (Solo and Duos) Submissions Now Open

If you are a solo artist or duo who loves to entertain travellers from all over the world, we’d like to hear from you. We are now seeking musicians for our very popular music program onboard the Fundy Rose, sailing from Digby, NS to Saint John, NB. Ideally, you play a variety of folk, Celtic, Acadian and traditional music. It’s a fantastic opportunity to entertain our passengers with the Bay of Fundy as a beautiful backdrop.

Onboard The Fundy Rose
10:00 AM-5:00 PM, five (5) days a week, sailing out of Digby
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Performance Requirements - Musicians will play two (2) sets per crossing:

Digby to Saint John
Set 1 - 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Set 2 - 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM

Saint John to Digby
Set 1: 2:45 PM - 3:15 PM
Set 2:  3:45 PM – 4:15 PM

Set times are flexible depending on sail conditions and timing.

Compensation details-$7500.00, ($150 per day plus lunch) plus accommodations, per diem and mileage.
Merch can be sold during performances and made available at the onboard gift shop
