Music Nova Scotia Executive Director Search Now Open

Music Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit association that encourages the creation, development, growth, and promotion of Nova Scotia’s music industry. They do this by providing education, information and resources to their members; by advocating for the industry to all levels of government and private sector; and by promoting the export of Nova Scotia music regionally, nationally, and internationally. On their behalf, we are seeking an experienced professional as its Executive Director.

In this role, you will assume overall responsibility for providing leadership and direction to the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors and operating within a strategic planning framework, you will manage all day-to-day operations of the organization, including programming, administration, event management, member services, funding, sponsorship, human resources, advocacy, and public affairs.

What will it take to be successful in this role?

Ideally, you have management experience in the arts and culture sector with music industry experience strongly preferred. You have a solid grasp of board governance principles and the demonstrated ability to work with and communicate proactively and effectively with a volunteer board of directors.

You possess high-level strategic thinking and planning skills and the ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and donors. A collaborative leader and facilitator, you will provide proper guidance, coaching and support to an experienced staff and help them set and achieve their performance objectives.

As several programs are funded through government channels, you will liaise with key government officials to ensure open and communicative relationships exist and funding deadlines are met. You will also build and maintain linkages with other stakeholders, including the corporate community, sponsors, volunteers, and regional, national and international associations.

You understand the challenges of running an industry association.  You have a generalist background, including skills in finance, administration, human resources, policy development and program management. Your fundraising and sponsorship skills are well developed, and you enjoy excellent contacts within all sectors.

You have excellent communication skills and are known for your ability to motivate people to meet sometimes difficult and challenging objectives.

Moreover, you possess significant cross-cultural awareness and understanding, coupled with demonstrated experience building strong interpersonal relationships with a wide and diverse range of individuals and communities.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to fulfill this ambitious mission. If you have interest in this opportunity, please forward your resume and thoughtful letter explaining why you are qualified and how you could contribute to the growth and development of Music Nova Scotia. Applications can be emailed to Gerald Walsh Associates Inc. at apply@geraldwalsh.com, quoting project number 1840 in the subject line.

Music Nova Scotia values diversity and inclusiveness and encourages applications from all qualified candidates including Indigenous persons, racially visible persons, persons with disabilities, women and identities that are outside the gender binary.

Applicants from these communities wishing to self-identify may do so in their cover letter.

If we contact you for an interview and you are a person with a disability who requires technical aids or alternative arrangements, please let us know of these needs and any way in which we can be of assistance.
