Blue Spirits @ Stayner's Wharf

Thursday August 3 @ Stayner's Wharf Pub & Grill

Fronted by trumpeter/vocalist Paul St-Amand, Blue Spirits sounds like an updated spin on Chet Baker, blending cool jazz, bop, blues, funk, and hip hop into a soulful stew. Formed in 2016, the ensemble has been active on the Halifax jazz circuit, collaborating with artists like Andrew Jackson, Silvio Pupo, Zoe Leger, and Carolyn Curry. In addition to skillful interpretations of standards, Blue Spirits performs an exciting set of original jazz music. In addition to Baker, notable influences include Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Gerry Mulligan, Roy Hargrove, Robert Glasper, and Dave Holland.

Blue Spirits is Paul St-Amand (trumpet, flugelhorn & vocals), James Shaw (saxophone), Ross Avey (guitar), Matt MacLennan (electric & upright bass), and Brendan Melchin (drums).

Cover is $5.
