(February 9, 2024 – Halifax, NS) Following the recommendations put forward in the #blackmusicmatters report, Music Nova Scotia and the African Nova Scotian Music Association (ANSMA) have created a joint African Nova Scotian/Black Music Advisory Committee.
The Advisory Committee is created as a standing committee for the purpose of advising the MNS and ANSMA Board of Directors and staff, and other participating stakeholders, on the implementation and ongoing support and upkeep of the recommendations put forth by the #blackmusicmatters report, as well as ongoing advisory work pertaining to African Nova Scotian/Black music issues.
The Advisory Committee will consist of up to six members with diverse skills and experiences. The Committee will provide MNS and ANSMA’s Boards and management with opinions about and advice for the organizations, and their programs, operations, procedures and partners, in relation to elevating relationships and opportunities in African Nova Scotian/Black music communities. They will additionally provide input, advice, and knowledge towards specific projects, topics, and issues.
The call for interested parties is now open. Those selected will be required to virtually attend a minimum of four paid meetings per year, scheduled quarterly. Terms for Advisory Committee members will be two years.
