Gardener is an alternative rock band from Halifax, NS, Canada. Their sound is influenced by a wide range of genres: the tight and steady drums of power pop, the fuzzy bass of 90s indie rock, the jangly lead guitar of 80s and 90s Britpop, the distorted rhythm of shoegaze, and the high and flying vocals of the 1990s Halifax rock scene.

Formed in December 2022 and fronted by singer/songwriter Landon Morris, Gardener began as a side project where he could plug in his electric guitar and crank the knobs to 11. The first release was an EP of demos titled “Nothing Changes”. After piecing together a live band shortly thereafter, the songs were re-recorded and released on a full-length album of demos, “Step Out in the Sun.”

Gardener’s debut single “Captain” was released in March 2023. The song was featured on college radio stations throughout Canada, added to Exclaim!’s “The Eh! List” and placed #6 on Spare Room Tunes’ “Best Songs of 2023” list. The song and its extensive coast-wide release tour through Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick nabbed the band a nomination for “Best New Artist” in The Coast’s “Best of Halifax” awards later that year.

Gardener is currently recording their debut LP, set for release in 2025.
