Music Nova Scotia is pleased to open applications for the Jacob Smith Production Mentorship.

First announced at Nova Scotia Music Week 2023 as part of the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop, this program will provide 200 hours of paid mentorship with producer Jacob Smith, aka My Best Friend Jacob. The mentorship will focus on production skills with an emphasis on bespoke composition, sync, and song production.

The mentorship will provide a mixture of in-person instruction, remote instruction, and independent work.

The successful applicant will be paid $5,000 for the 200 hours they complete through this program. An additional $500 stipend will be provided for travel to in-person sessions.

Only one applicant will be selected. To apply for this program, you will need to submit the following information:

• A document detailing your experience in music production and why you are interested in this mentorship
• A list of any production credits, co-writes, or placements
• Links to 1-3 examples of original compositions that you have created

Applicants should have the following skills:

• Familiarity with and ability to use a DAW
• Some ability to write melodic compositions
• Some ability to produce beats
• Ability to set goals and work independently

About Jacob Smith 

Jacob has touched every facet of audio in his short career. As a recording artist, radio producer, podcast producer and more recently a Grammy-nominated producer for his contributions to Metro Boomin’s Heroes and Villains. Jacob’s songs were streamed over 250 million times in the last year. In 2023, he signed a publishing deal with EMPIRE and achieved his first platinum sales certification from the RIAA and a Grammy-nomination for Best Rap Album.
