Ambient/electronica artist based out of Nova Scotia.

Hawkes River is an ambient/electronica artist and composer, currently based out of Nova Scotia.

A lifelong fan of film scores, industrial music, new age, and metal, he brings his eclectic tastes to bare in creating his music.

Hawkes River began his composing career in 2021, creating original soundscapes for the horror podcast, the Lexicon of Dread.

In late 2023, he released his debut EP, Tangerine Nightmare, on his Bandcamp page. He followed this with a flurry of other releases, including a trilogy of space-themed EP (Esoteric Space Opera, A Still More Glorious Dawn Awaits and Cold Dead Anxiety).

His singles vary in style from chiptune (“Quest For Space Excalibur”) to world fusion (Marooned on Planet Fanservice) to chilling dark ambient (“Men With Knives”).

Hawkes River’s first full-length album, Moloch Wants Blood, was released in August of 2024. It was named after the ancient Phoenician deity who was worshipped with the sacrifice of children.

He followed this in September with Challenger Deep, a blend of dreamy dronescapes and high-tempo electronica. Its sprawling, 23-minute title track was meant to evoke the darkness and crushing pressure of the deep ocean.

The Challenger Deep is the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean…that we know of.

In late October, Hawkes River released his first soundtrack album, Sidney’s Room, for the audio play of the same name. For this project he drew heavily from 1980s film music, especially the work of Vangelis.

A week later later, on Halloween night, he released Caelis, a album of two extended ambient suites, inspired by Tangerine Dream’s Zeit and the works of Brian Eno.

Hawkes River currently lives in deepest, darkest Halifax. He is ALWAYS working on new music.
