Born and raised in Halifax, Kyla Jean began her songwriting journey in 2014 when her grandfather fell ill. She sat down at the piano and wrote about the grief her family was facing. Music had always been a source of joy, and from age 11 on, it became a haven to communicate shared human emotions.
Inspired by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Rose Cousins Kyla’s music takes the listener through an emotional landscape. Her Debut EP, “Pretty Word for Pain,” was brewing during the pandemic and is now released on all platforms. To Kyla, music is a third space where people share a unique vulnerability with strangers and connect. Her lyricism and composition showcase these universal experiences.
Kyla is pursuing a degree in music therapy at Acadia University. She looks forward to meeting other musicians at Acadia, studying guitar and voice, and is currently working on writing her first album.
“Kyla has a unique knack for lyricism , and creating imagery in her songwriting.”
