A singer-songwriter for over 25 years, and performer with over 34 years experience, this artist has been crafting her art for most of her lifetime, however she’s brand new to the recording arts scene, and with four single releases and a six song ep (“Wanderlust”), all debuted in her first year as a recording artist, she is making a splash.
Michelle is as relatable as they come, being a busy working mom. A mom to one child of her own, plus raising her child’s friend full time for the past two years, (both kids recently graduated from high school), and an owner of a small family business for the past 16 years, Michelle has had her hands full these last couple decades, but is now excited to finally have the freedom to catch up with her dreams as a touring recorded artist, now that her business is flourishing, and her babies are all grown up.
Michelle is an avid outdoor enthusiast, who loves road trips, hiking, mountain climbing, and van life, and who has been doing most of her songwriting from the road these past few years, while on solo adventures. Her songs like Always, Affirmations, and The Guy were all written from the trunk of her SUV, inspired by the nature around her. One of her favourite songwriting secrets is to tuck a nature, adventure or road trip-themed word or concept in every one of her songs, as a nod to her passions.
Her single single, “Summer Love” (Released with her EP in June 2024) spent 15 weeks this summer/fall on the CIOE97.5 East Coast Top 30 Countdown in the top ten, with ten of those week in the top 5, and two weeks at number one, before being retired to their hall of fame.
After a very busy couple years of recording, and learning everything she can about the industry through various industry-led workshops, Michelle is going all-in with her first LP, expected to begin it’s waterfall release in March 2025. Expect lots of big things from this eager emerging artist this coming year, as she has big plans to up her performance game, using her background in musical theatre as inspiration to put on a sweet honeyed-vocal nature-themed experience for the adventurous at heart.
“Michelle Calder Unleashes an Emotional Storm With Her New Single “Hurricane” Michelle Calder returns to the music scene with her latest single, “Hurricane,” a powerful and emotional track that explores the turbulent waters of complex relationships. With her distinctive voice and layered production, Calder creates an immersive listening experience that leaves a lasting impression. From the first notes, “Hurricane” envelops the listener in a dark and introspective atmosphere. Calder’s voice is at once vulnerable and powerful, conveying a sense of longing and disillusionment. The lyrics dig deep, painting a vivid picture of a relationship marked by broken promises and unexpressed emotions. The production is impeccable, with layers of synths, driving drums and atmospheric guitars blending together to create a dynamic soundscape. The song’s crescendo is particularly notable, as the emotions peak in a cathartic chorus that will resonate with anyone who has been through a tumultuous relationship. “Hurricane” is not just a song, it’s an experience. Michelle Calder’s ability to transform complex emotions into music is what truly sets her apart. This single is a testament to her talent and artistic honesty, and further cements her place among the emerging talents of the contemporary music scene.”

“From Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Canadian singer-songwriter Michelle Calder presents "Hurricane", a folk-pop anthem full of melancholy and natural strength. The song uses metaphors of storms and wild winds to reflect a turbulent relationship where love becomes uncontrollable chaos. With his distinctive soprano voice and an instrumentation that evokes the fury and calm of a hurricane, Calder creates an immersive sound experience, incorporating effects such as real winds and bells that reinforce the atmosphere of the theme. Influenced by artists like Jewel and Carly Simon, her style combines introspective lyrics with an adventurous spirit, reflecting her connection with nature. "Hurricane" is an invitation to get carried away by the emotional storm of a lost love, where two passionate souls scream in the wind without being able to meet.”
