MUSIC NOVA SCOTIA CALL FOR BOARD NOMINATIONS

Music Nova Scotia is holding the annual election for its board of directors.
There are seven (7) incumbents re-offering, two (2) open seats, with nine (9) total seats to fill.

Music Nova Scotia members are encouraged to nominate anyone who, in their opinion, would be a good candidate for the Music Nova Scotia board of directors. We also invite anyone interested in being nominated to declare their interest by contacting Music Nova Scotia Nominations Committee Chair James Stewart (jameshughstewart@gmail.com).

Nominations open May 4, 2021 and close May 18, 2021 at 5:00 PM AST.  

In each case, contact will be made with each nominee to ensure permission of the nominee and to complete the nomination process. 

To be eligible for consideration, a candidate must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a Music Nova Scotia Member in good standing (you may sign up and then be nominated) – musicnovascotia.ca/join
  • Believe in the mission, vision, and work of the Society
  • Comprehend and accept the fiduciary duties and responsibilities associated with the actions of the Society
  • Understand the job of a board member
  • Possess the skills needed by the Society
  • Be familiar with the Society’s bylaws

Before May 18, 2021 the candidate must deliver to the Nomination Committee:

  • A completed web form available here.
  • Three(3) letters of support from Music Nova Scotia members in good standing
  • 200 word bio for the ballot
  • Photo

All nominees must provide three letters of support from members in good standing and must be willing to participate in an interview conducted by the Nominations Committee via phone or Zoom.

*Music Nova Scotia board of directors positions are two (2) year terms.  

VOTING  

The Music Nova Scotia Nominations Committee will prepare a list of nominees. The election will be conducted electronically from June 1 through June 22, 2021. Details on voting procedures will be forwarded to the membership on June 1.  

NOTE: ALL VOTING FOR BOARD POSITIONS WILL TAKE PLACE ONLINE. NO VOTING WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE AGM.

Voting Eligibility

All members in good standing are eligible to vote with the exception of honorary members. Student members are not entitled to a vote. 

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2021

All Music Nova Scotia members are encouraged to vote online for the Board of Directors, who will provide guidance for all Music Nova Scotia activities. All members are also welcome to attend the virtual 2021 Annual General Meeting where the results of the election will be announced. Virtual meeting details will be sent to members closer to the date.

AGM Agenda Considerations:

  • Minutes of preceding general meeting;
  • Consideration of the annual report of the Directors;
  • Consideration of the financial statements, including balance sheet and operating statement and the report of the auditors therein;
  • Election of Directors for the ensuing year;
  • Appointment of Auditors
