Job Posting – 1 Year Maternity Leave
Music Nova Scotia is seeking an experienced and qualified professional as its Interim Executive Director. This will be a 1-year contract position covering maternity leave. The desired start date is August 8 for one year
Music Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit provincial industry association that encourages and supports the creation, development, growth, and promotion of Nova Scotia’s music industry. They do this by providing education, information, and resources to their members; by advocating for the industry to all levels of government and private sector; and by promoting the export of Nova Scotia music regionally, nationally, and internationally.
In this role, you will assume overall responsibility for providing leadership and direction to the staff and organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors and operating within a strategic planning framework, you will manage all day-to-day operations of the organization including programming, administration, event management, member services, funding, budgeting, sponsorship, human resources, advocacy, and public affairs. These tasks are to be undertaken in alignment with the organization’s strategic plans and goals.
As a strong leader and facilitator, you will provide guidance and support to an experienced staff and help them achieve their own performance objectives.
As several programs are funded by the government, you will liaise with key government officials to ensure open and communicative relationships exist and funding deadlines are met. You will also maintain relationships with other stakeholders including corporate community, sponsors, volunteers, and regional, national, and international associations.
As the ideal candidate, you have substantial management experience in the arts and culture sector and you understand the challenges of running an industry association. You possess critical and creative thinking skills to respond to an ever-changing industry.
You have extensive skills in finance, administration, human resources, policy development and program management. Your fundraising and sponsorship skills are well-developed and you maintain excellent contacts across sectors.
You have experience working with a volunteer Board of Directors and understand the relationships between staff and volunteers. You possess excellent communication skills and are known for your ability to motivate people to meet sometimes difficult and challenging objectives. The ability to conduct business in English and French would be an asset.

Skills, Requirements, and Experience:
- Proven leadership skills and at least 3-5 years of experience in a management role.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the music industry (local, regional, national, international) and experience working in the music industry
- Experience with fundraising and sponsorship procurement.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Experience as an Executive Director of a non-profit association would be an asset.
