Music Nova Scotia Announces Investment Top-Up for Acadian and Francophone Artists

Music Nova Scotia Announces Investment Top-Up for Acadian and Francophone Artists

(September 1, 2023 – Halifax NS) – With the support of the Nova Scotia Office of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie (OAAF), Music Nova Scotia is pleased to announce a new top-up program available to Acadian and Francophone artists who are awarded funding through Music Nova Scotia’s investment program.

With a goal to encourage growth and exporting of Acadian and Francophone artists, this pilot project aims to alleviate some of the financial burden that these artists face when developing their careers in a minority situation.

“Providing Acadian and Francophone artists with the tools to thrive will help ensure a strong future for our language and culture,” says Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie. “That’s why the Office of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie is pleased to be working in partnership with Music Nova Scotia to offer artist development programs to support emerging Acadian and Francophone artists develop their skills and knowledge, and to showcase Acadian music on the international stage.”

For the upcoming year, beginning with the September 15th funding deadline, Acadian and Francophone artists who are awarded funding for upcoming projects will have their approved costs 100% financially covered – primarily by Music Nova Scotia’s Investment Program (from 50% to 75%, depending on artist tier), and topped-up by the funding from OAAF.

Select Artist I & Artist II investment programs are eligible for this top up, including:

  • Marketing Support
  • Mentorship
  • Recording
  • Showcase Support
  • Tour Support

Investment clients will be required to self-identify as Acadian/Francophone on their funding applications in order to be eligible for this increased financial coverage. Only projects or initiatives that are conducted predominantly in French (at least 75%) are eligible for this top-up.

Music Nova Scotia thanks the Nova Scotia Office of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie for their commitment to supporting Acadian and Francophone artists, their art, and the growth of their communities across the province.
